Here in the Central West, we feed the nation, and we help power homes and businesses. We look out for each other, and we deserve a government that gets behind us.
After years of failure to plan for our regional economy’s future and for climate impacts that they knew were coming, we have to ask, who are our political parties really working for?
Kate has been out and about meeting and listening to hundreds of people from all walks of life across the electorate. There are many concerns but also much hope that people have for Calare.
The big issues that keep coming up are cost of living, affordability and availability of housing, access to health care and the energy transition- to name just the top four. Kate is seeing and hearing that communities and individuals already have so many ideas about how to solve local problems but they're simply not being heard and supported by the current political representatives and systems.
Imagine a local leader who doesn't think they have all the answers and instead listens to the people and represents their voice in Canberra without the constraints of a political party agenda and games. We get to be part of the solution, rather than having things done to us that aren't necessarily with our best interests at heart.

Across Calare, the key issues we are hearing from voters are:
• Cost of living
• Affordable housing and emergency housing for the homeless
• Energy and fuel prices
• Access to local healthcare and aged care
• Increased funding and support of local schools and early childhood education
• Addressing the climate crisis
• Renewable energy initiatives and transitioning to a decarbonised energy network
• Stamping out corruption in politics
