FRIDAY 28 MARCH 2025: MEDIA RELEASE KATE HOOK LAUNCHES HER CAMPAIGN FOR CALARE: ‘PUTTING CALARE FIRST – SAY NO TO THE PARTIES AND YES TO CHANGE FOR CALARE’
Independent candidate, Kate Hook, has launched her campaign for Calare for the upcoming general election on Saturday 3 May.
“For too long, Calare has been left behind by the political parties, focused on short term wins and the interests of their corporate backers.”
“I’ve never been a member of a political party. I’m not interested in political games. I’m not beholden to big business. I’ll always put Calare first – because I can.”
“This is a cost-of-living election. It’s a climate election. And the two are intrinsically linked,” said Kate. “Our communities are feeling the pressure—rising bills, housing stress, over-stretched health services. Our communities are also feeling the effects of climate change firsthand, with fires, floods, droughts and spiralling insurance costs. We need leadership that looks beyond the next election cycle and plans for the next generation.”
As a true Independent, Kate Hook brings no party baggage—just a clear commitment to the people of Calare.
Her campaign is backed by hundreds of local volunteers who share her vision for a better way of doing politics, where the parties are held to account by Independents who put their communities first.
“While the parties play their political games, our communities suffer. Regardless of who forms government in May, I’ll hold the major parties to account on the things that matter most to the people of Calare: real cost-of-living relief, affordable housing, more healthcare services, and clean energy jobs for future generations to come.”
“It's time to save our democracy from party politics and corporate influence. It’s time to realise the two-party system is holding us back. It's time to make decisions that look 10, 20, even 50 years into the future. We owe that to our kids and grandkids.”
Kate is also calling for a renewed focus on young people, who have borne the brunt of policy failure for too long.
“They deserve the chance to build lives, families and futures right here in our region,” she said. “We need to get our priorities right. We need to correct the neglect. That means investing in housing, health, education, meaningful work, and a climate-safe future—not just for now, but for the decades ahead.”
With her strong local ties, deep listening and a commitment to genuine consultation, Kate Hook offers voters a different kind of politics—one built on trust, integrity, evidence-based policies and long-term vision.
“This is our chance to do politics better. Calare is ready—and so am I.”
