Dutton's nuclear meltdown

MEDIA RELEASE THURSDAY 17 APRIL 2025: DUTTON’S NUCLEAR MELTDOWN A WATER DISASTER FOR LITHGOW & REGIONAL NSW: KATE HOOK
Responding to Peter Dutton's gaffe in last night’s leaders debate, Independent candidate for the marginal Federal Seat of Calare Kate Hook says nuclear reactors in Lithgow would be a disaster for water security in her community, which was mere months away from running out of water in the last drought.

Quotes from Kate Hook, Independent Candidate for Calare:

Peter Dutton had a nuclear meltdown last night.

Water in our community is scarce and precious - we need it for drinking and farming - but Peter Dutton couldn’t answer basic questions on where all the water will come from for the nuclear reactor he wants to put in our backyard here in Lithgow.”

If the politicians in power can’t answer basic questions they don’t deserve our vote this election.”

“Expert research today shows we don’t have enough water to run nuclear power plants safely.

It’s time for the politicians in power to come clean and get off the fence: do they support nuclear reactors in our backyard or not? Reactors in Lithgow would be a disaster for our water supply, human health and wrecking ball for the entire economy.

The cheapest, cleanest, most reliable form of energy is renewables with battery storage - not radioactive nuclear power which will be a disaster for our water supply, human health and wrecking ball for the budget.

The time for fence sitting on this issue is over because families and farmers deserve the truth from these politicians.

The incumbent Federal MP for Calare has refused to take a position on whether there should be nuclear reactors in his own community.
