Campaign Code of Conduct

Thank you!!

Thank you for offering to volunteer your time to a community-led campaign to elect Kate Hook as our independent representative in Canberra.

Kate and Independent Calare Pty Ltd (“we”), want to ensure that you have a positive and enjoyable experience as a valued volunteer.

We take our responsibility to ensure all volunteers feel safe and included seriously. This is the volunteer code for all our volunteers, which we ask people to read and agree to upon joining the team. By signing up to volunteer, you agree to the Code.

Here are the main points:

We ask that you:

  • act positively and in accordance with the values of the Campaign;
  • use any Campaign property only as directed by the Campaign and return it when requested;
  • notify an appropriate person in the Campaign team if you see another volunteer breaching this code or engaging in conduct which puts themselves or others at risk; and
  • comply with the law at all times.

Volunteer role

This is a volunteer role. As a volunteer, you acknowledge that you:

  • are not an employee of the Campaign, and that unless otherwise agreed in writing the work you carry out is provided on a voluntary basis and you won’t be paid for that work;
  • will only perform the tasks which the Campaign team has asked or authorised you to perform;
  • will be conscious to ensure that any comments you make about the election or the Campaign are clearly expressed as your own, and not made on behalf of the Campaign.

Insurance

The Campaign has obtained insurance cover for our volunteers in the unlikely event that you are injured while volunteering. We can provide a copy of this insurance on request, but it seeks to provide some coverage for certain out of pocket medical expenses and lost income.

We’re sure it won’t be a problem but you should be aware that volunteers may not be insured if they:

  1. are under the influence of drugs or alcohol while undertaking volunteer duties;
  2. undertake tasks which are not authorised by the Campaign;
  3.  engage in criminal activity; or
  4. are dishonest or reckless.

Intellectual property

From time to time you might develop material or content for the Campaign.  You agree that the Campaign can use that material or content in the campaign unless you have advised the Campaign otherwise.

Confidential information

In the course of your volunteer role, you may be given information which is intended by the Campaign to be kept confidential.

Where information is given to you which is identified as confidential or which appears to be confidential, you agree to keep any such information confidential and only use it for the purpose for which it is given to you. You may not use or disclose this information to any person for any other purpose, unless required by law.

Photo consent

It’s really helpful for encouraging new volunteers if we can show people what we do with photos on social media or sometimes in print.

If you do not want photos of you as a volunteer to be used by the Campaign, then please let us know.

Unless you otherwise notify us, you agree that photos taken of you whilst volunteering may be used by the Campaign, including through our social media channels.

Campaign Values

We ask that you are familiar with the campaign values, which you can read below.

Thanks for reading our code and please continue with your volunteer sign-up, which serves as your agreement to comply.  We’re so glad you’re joining us!

Values

The Kate Hook Campaign Stands for:

1.       Participation & Courage

2.       Evidence-based decision-making

3.       Transparency

4.       Accountability

5.       Engaged communities

6.       Respect

Participation & Courage – constituents’ input will be invited and will be heard. The people of Calare know their local area and understand what this region needs. Volunteers will draw on their courage to: talk about the difficult issues that people would rather avoid; take action in line with the urgency that is required; and get involved in this campaign even if they've never “done politics “ before

 Evidence –  we’ve had enough of governments ignoring science and expert advice; we need evidence-based decision making, even when it is difficult or unpopular.

Transparency – constituents will be well-informed and decisions thoroughly explained. If elected, Kate will continue to do what she has done during this election campaign – meet with people throughout the region and consult, research and talk about what she is doing on our behalf.

Accountability – Kate will be accountable to the electorate only, not to a party, donor or lobbyist. Kate is an independent candidate, not beholden to vested interests.

Community – people in Calare should have an ongoing, active role in our democracy and community planning, not just at election time. Across her three-year term, Kate will actively engage with Calare communities, assisting them to realise their vision for the future, listening to views on issues, getting input to Parliamentary debates and providing feedback on her actions and progress in Canberra.

Respect - We need to raise the standard of behaviour in Federal Parliament, and of politicians in the public sphere, with informed, honest, rational discussions without personal attack.
